Price soars expected on 1 April

On 1 April, a day nicknamed National Price Hike Day, expect increases in various services and taxes.

BT, EE, Plusnet, and Vodafone customers will see a 7.9% rise, while Virgin Media and O2 are increasing prices by 8.8%. Sky customers can anticipate a 6.7% rise.

Council tax increases across the country vary from 2.99% to 21%, with Birmingham City Council permitting a 21% rise over two years due to financial issues.

TV licence costs will go up to £169.50, an increase of £10.50. Water bills in England and Wales will rise by 6%, reaching an average annual bill of £473.

Vehicle excise duty will increase by around 6%. Train fares in Scotland will rise by 8.7%, while those in England and Wales saw a 4.9% rise in March.

Royal Mail will hike stamp prices by 10p, making first-class stamps £1.35 and second-class stamps 85p from 2 April.

These increases are often tied to inflation rates, with some exceptions attributed to particular circumstances, such as the council tax rise in Birmingham due to financial challenges.
