Where can Bingo be Played?

February 11, 2010

The venue for playing bingo can vary depending upon the location in the country.  Bingo is often played in church halls, sports clubs or other open buildings that have space for a number of tables and chairs.

Within the UK there are many buildings that are solely used for playing bingo and these are known as bingo clubs, or more commonly known as bingo halls.

Within bingo clubs, bingo players can purchase books of tickets to play their game with. Within a bingo game, players will usually use between one and six books of bingo tickets.  When playing bingo in the bingo clubs, playing is separated throughout the evening into different sessions; different books with a different number of pages are used.

It is usual for bingo players within the bingo clubs to purchase up to six books which collectively contain every number in every possible combination. This is to maximise their potential for winning prizes from the pot.

The numbers are called out by the bingo caller and at the same time the bingo players will check their bingo tickets to see if the numbers are listed on them.

Where any of the numbers called out by the bingo caller are listed on their game tickets, they will check the numbers off with a particular marker known as a “dabber” or a “dauber”.

When the bingo player has marked off a sufficient amount of numbers to win a prize they are required to call out to the bingo caller to get their attention. Although it is not necessary, most people will shout “bingo” or “yes”.  Other words shouted are “line” or “house” depending on what bingo numbers they have accumulated.
