Poker Stars – Annette Obrestad

March 04, 2009

When Annette Obrestad was only 18 years of age she triumphed in the biggest Hold’em tournament ever held in Europe. The day before her 19th birthday, she won £1,000,000 GBP on 17th September 2007 in the World Series of Poker’s first $10,000 European Buy-in Main Event. Another world record was set by her on that day: it was the biggest prize ever won by a woman.

She started her career when she was 15 years old under the online alias, “Annette 15.” She never deposited real money in her account but just like “Jesus” Ferguson, she first made money in a freeroll tournament.

In a span of two years she reached a stage where she would regularly buy into $100+ rebuy tournaments. In one year alone she made close to $1,000,000 by winning on Ultimate Bet, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. Her World Series win was the last in that year. Annette gathered more than thirty, first and second place finishes and a total of $3,000,000 after her World Series win.

She is compared to the legend Stu Ungar for gaining such a meteoric rise in her teenage years.

Annette, at 20 years of age, is considered to be one of the best players around. She has come first in a 180 person NL Hold’em online contest in the dark. She did not even see her cards. Such a feat only goes to show how talented a player she is. Next year she will turn 21 and be eligible for the US World Series.
