Football betting is becoming increasingly popular, partly because of the unrivalled popularity of the game itself and partly because of the sheer number and variety of betting options available.

Straight bets are amongst the most popular types of football bets, whether on Champions League betting or any of the other leagues and tournaments running throughout the year. This is where the bet is made on some specific event taking place, such as backing a draw or a win.

Points spread is another favourite, though a little more complex to envisage. Here the favourite team is expected to not only win but also do so by a certain number of points. The team, for example, will have to win by two points if the initial spread is -1.5. Asian handicap is another term for points spread betting. You can also use it to make bets on the weaker team and if that team does not lose by greater than a one-goal margin, you can win the bet.

With the somewhat simpler total score bet, bets are made against the bookmaker on whether their prediction for the total number of goals in the match will be either higher or lower than the actual result.

The trick with football betting, as is the case with most other forms of sports betting, is to bring as much cool intelligence to bear about the game as you can. This can be based on the odds provided by the bookmaker or your own studies of the histories and forms of the players, or a combination of both.
