Online Gambling Scandal ATP - Giorgio Galimberti

February 19, 2008

Online gambling is being cleaned up globally so it seems when we look at the sport close up. The tennis professional Giorgio Galimberti has been betting on tennis games although his own matches seem to be out of the equation. Giorgio has already been suspended for a period of 100 days and got a fine for $35,000. Once rated at the top 115th men’s player. It seems Giorgio is not the first professional tennis player to have been caught online gambling as 3 other Italian players were recently suspended for the same thing.
The ATP ( Anti Corruption Program) does not allow gambling in any form by players. Betfair stepped in to void all wagers when it saw unusual betting taking place within tennis matches recently. It is thought that tennis may have to cooperate more closely with online gambling sites in order to see any strange gambling patterns taking place.
