Betting limits during poker games

March 31, 2010

Depending on the rules you are using at the time, there are different types of limits that can be placed on bets during an online poker game. Perhaps the easiest to understand is the no limit approach.

As the name implies there are no limits on how much money you can bet. No limit games usually involve playing for very high stakes as there are no restrictions on how much any opening bet can be or how much you can raise.

No limit games are generally played in major tournaments such as the World Series Poker Tournament, where thousands or even millions of pounds could be up for grabs.

For those with limited funds, the safest game to play is the fixed limit match where small fixed incremental amounts can only be called or raised up to a maximum.

A variation of the fixed limit game is a spread limit from say £1 – £10. In this type of game a maximum of £10 can be called or raised although the amount bet must be at least the same as the previous bet placed.

Another type of limit is the pot limit where the betting amount is the same as the amount in the pot.

Finally, a very common type of limit is the table stakes limit where players can only play with what they have on the table in front of them. If they run out of chips or money that’s the end of the game as far as the player is concerned.

Bingo is a popular game of chance played throughout the world in all sorts of venues, ranging from private homes and church halls, to huge Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo clubs that cater for many hundreds of people.

Its main attractions are its simplicity and sociability, and of course the chance of winning some money. For young and old alike, Bingo Night has always been something special.

Nowadays, a new world has opened up with the Internet, and if you have a PC and an Internet connection, you can play anytime and anywhere – even from your mobile phone. Most of the sites have a vibrant communal element too and Foxy Bingo even has its own radio station. To get started, all you need do is register your details and open an online account, but you might wisely decide to play a few free bingo games before doing so to get acquainted with how it works. Between games, play the online slots or scratch cards and have a chat with other players in the Community area.

Betfair – the largest betting exchange!

March 26, 2010

Betfair is the largest internet betting exchange in the world.  The company is based in Hammersmith, UK and offers online gambling to over two million customers.  It differs to the usual gambling website and operates as a betting exchange.  This means that customers are able to place their bets with odds which are set or requested by other customers.  Usually this is done by the bookmaker.  Those who use the betting exchange are able to either “back” bets (a normal bet where the customer has bet on their prediction to win), or place “lay” bets, which means the wager is going against the bet which is “backed”.  This method means that the customary role of the bookmaker is not required.

Customers of Betfair will find that they usually offer up to 20% better odds than other gambling websites.  However there is a commission charge made on all winning bets, which is usually around 5%.

If you are considering signing up with Betfair then you will usually find that a free gift or incentive is offered to new customers.  This is usually in the form of a free bet.  There will be conditions attached to the use of the free bet; however it is possible to win large amounts of money solely off the back of it.

As well as betting on events, Betfair also offers money-based games such as poker, roulette and bingo.  There are opportunities to win big money on these games, and you will also be offered incentives upon signing up for your first game.

Guide to playing online slots

March 25, 2010

Slot machines have been around for very many years and have been known by various names in different countries. For example, in the United States they are called slot machines, while the British variants are termed fruit machines and the Australians call them poker machines; the short form is simply the word slots. They have also been called one-armed bandits due to the fact that the original machines were operated by a lever on the side of the machine.

In the 21st century physical slot machines operate at the press of a button, while the online slots offer the same thing at the click of a mouse. Traditional slot machines rely on three or more reels that spin when the button is pressed, and matching any required combinations of symbols will produce a prize for the gambler.

Currently slot machines are the most popular type of gambling in casinos around the world, regardless of whether they are online casinos or are at physical locations. It is estimated that slots make up close to 70% of the average casinos’ income, making it one of the most lucrative forms of money making in the gambling world.

As the technology has evolved online slots have allowed this popular form of gambling to become even more accessible, with the online casinos such as William Hill, Ladbrokes, 888, Spin Palace, and Littlewoods Casino capitalising on this fact by making online slots easier and easier to use through the advancement of technology.

Online casinos are rapidly becoming more popular than their physical counterparts due to their convenience factor, with slots continuing to stay at the top of the list of popular games.

Tote Betting

March 23, 2010

Tote betting is a unique form of sports betting that is only available in Britain, and only available through the bookmaker known as The Tote, or the Horserace Totalisator Board. They are an official British bookmaker with close to 600 betting shops and locations located on the 60 racecourses throughout Britain, as well as operating call centres and internet betting sites. There are a variety of tote bets available, but the most common is the pari-mutuel betting on horse races, as they are the only company in the UK allowed to offer this form of bet.

Tote betting is one of the easiest ways for newcomers to get involved in sports betting, because the availability and relatively low risk of betting pools allows for novices to get their feet wet without really risking anything. The popularity of tote betting is largely due to this factor, not to mention most of their locations are right next to the bars and restaurants of the race tracks, making it impossible for anyone to miss them. It is incredibly simple as well, and all you do is tell the cashier which horse you are looking to back, hand over your money, and wait for the outcome. If your bet wins, you share your money with everyone else in the pool.

The payout for tote betting is less than it is with traditional sports betting because you are sharing your winnings with individuals in a pool. However, the risks are also much lower, which means it is a safer form of sports betting perfect for novices.

The Lure of the Free Bet

March 21, 2010

The concept of promotions has been around for thousands of years, and regardless of which type of business you happen to be referring to there will always be some type of promotional programme in place to lure newcomers in. Such is the case with free bets. At their very basic level, free bets are promotional bets that allow newcomers the opportunity to get a taste of the action with relatively no risk involved. They are generally extremely small bets placed at betting sites, such as one or two pounds. The payouts are generally just as small, but the beauty of free bets is that it allows individuals to whet their appetite without putting any significant money on the line, and once they have won a few bets they are more likely to get involved in online betting and internet gambling.

All betting sites offer some form of free bets. Companies like William Hill will sometimes offer a promotional programme where an individual is allowed 25 pounds of free bets, or a matching bet promotion where newcomers can place a bet between five and 25 pounds and the company will match their bet up to 25 pounds, thus allowing the newcomer the opportunity to double their bet without investing their own cash. If they win, they are more likely to place an additional bet, and if they lose they are not out that much money and may feel more comfortable making an additional bet to try and win the money back.

What to know about Spread Betting

March 20, 2010

When gauging the different types of betting processes that have become extremely popular in the 21st century, spread betting jumps to the top of the list right alongside traditional sports betting. While traditional sports betting has always relied on some form of a win or lose scenario via fixed-odds or pari-mutuel betting systems, spread betting adds a little extra something to the mix. As the name suggests, bets are actually made on a spread, or range of outcomes, rather than simply on a win or lose situation. As a result, bettors can actually win money regardless of whether or not the team, race, or match that they are betting on wins or loses, based upon which spread they chose to bet on. It is a more complex form of sports betting, and it is perhaps for this reason that it has begun to become so popular.

Since spread betting carries with it a higher level of risk than fixed odds betting, with potential gains far beyond the amounts initially wagered, it tends to attract the more hardcore bettors on the playing field. Given the amount of money potentially won or lost, spread betting is not something a novice bettor wants to step into right away. It takes practice, skill and patience to be profitable at spread betting, regardless of whether or not you are using it for sports betting or financial markets. Spread betting is regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) rather than the Gambling Commission, and is increasing in popularity every day.

Poker Strategies – Table Position

March 18, 2010

One of the most basic strategic concepts in poker is table position.

In Texas Hold’em, the dealer button is the centre of the game’s action.  The position of the dealer button determines who places the small blind, who places the big blind, and the order of play for everyone at the table.

Immediately to the left of the dealer is the small blind.  This player starts the betting and is the first to act in every subsequent round prior to the flop.  To the left of the small blind is the big blind.  Once everyone at the table has either placed a bet or folded the hand, the big blind can raise the blind pre-flop if no other player has done so.

The player in the dealer position has a powerful advantage over his opponents.  Because the dealer is always the last to act in any round of betting, he has the ability to see what every other player has done before making a decision.  The dealer not only has the opportunity to read his opponents, but he also gets to make betting decisions before contributing any money to the pot.  This is essentially the equivalent of knowing the price tomorrow of a stock you have purchased today.

In most Texas Hold’em poker games, the dealer chip rotates around the table after each hand.  Whenever you find yourself in this advantageous position, be sure to use it wisely.  Watch your opponents carefully, consider their betting action seriously, and use the information to play the hand in your favour.

Playing bingo online – a great way to pass the time!

March 17, 2010

Bingo is one of the simplest and most enjoyable games to play. For the average person who likes to meet others and have the chance to make some money in a pleasant communal setting, bingo has no serious rival. Bingo is as popular now as when it was played across America as a church fundraising activity early in the twentieth century.

It has a long and distinguished history going back to its invention in Italy in 1530 and was very popular with the French upper classes in the eighteenth century.

On high streets across the UK, thousands turn up to play Bingo at Mecca and Gala clubs every night of the week. A clean, safe environment makes them popular with young and old alike – although worth noting is the age limit for membership is 18.

Slots can be played between games and the facilities are ultra-modern – somewhat reminiscent of an airport lounge in many cases with refreshments and every comfort on offer.

The expansion of the Internet has drawn new players in to playing online bingo. If you do not have the means of transportation to a bingo hall, or perhaps there isn’t one close enough to you, at least you will be able to play bingo online instead. You can play bingo online anywhere in the UK as long as you have an Internet connection, a PC and a phone line – then you can be logged onto a site and playing Bingo within minutes.

It’s a good idea to take some time in finding a site that suits you best from the huge number available.

Progressive Parlay Bets

March 15, 2010

In sports betting, progressive parlays are generally only used for team sports and horse races. At the most basic level they are joined wagers placed on multiple events, with most progressive parlays involving a joint wager between four and twelve separate events. The beauty of using progressive parlay bets as they relate to sports betting is that if an individual wins all of their selected bets they stand to win a significantly larger payout because of the significant odds against this actually occurring. However, the difference between a progressive parlay and a regular parlay is that an individual can actually lose some of the bets in his progression and still come out ahead, although the payout would be significantly smaller. Many betting sites actually allow sports betting participants to use a schedule where they are allowed to lose one bet on a 4-6 event parlay, two bets on a 7-9 parlay, and three bets on a 10-12 parlay, while still maintaining a payout.

Sports betting and progressive parlay bets generally go hand in hand, especially with football and horse racing. The reason for this is because it allows individuals to place bets on the long-term outcome for a particular team during a season. By placing such a large number of bets the potential for a significant payout is fairly high as long as your betting tips are reliable and you are comfortable participating in sports betting with significantly higher odds than traditional proposition bets. As any long-time sports betting participants can tell you, a progressive parlay is one of the best ways to wager in regards to your favourite football team.
